Prayer and Bibles in Public Schools

I have heard people complaining about children not being allowed to pray or have bibles in public schools.  I have also heard comments on how people in prison are allowed to have bibles, so why can’t children have bibles in schools?

These statements are extremely inaccurate and perpetrate falsehoods meant to stir up emotions.

Children are allowed to pray in school.  They can even organize prayer groups and have regular prayer meetings, as long as it doesn’t interfere with class time.

Children are allowed to bring their bible to school.  They can read their bibles and form bible study groups, as long as it does not interfere with class time.

These things are not banned in our public schools.  However, making them mandatory or forcing an entire class to participate in a teacher led religious activities is banned.

There is a difference between the two.

One Response to Prayer and Bibles in Public Schools

Thank you for putting this out so completely and so understandably. This is the very definition of Separation of Church and State, you can participate how and if you want, but you should not be coerced. It is the job of the State (local, state and federal) government to make and administer existing rules and regulations. Religious participation or non-participation even should not be one of those things that is a rule of law.
