Confession – Pretending to be Deaf for Chinese Food

I am not deaf, but I do have a severe hearing impairment.  I also know sign language.

Well here is my confession.

Several years ago, I got the flu which caused a sinus and respiratory infection and then I got laryngitis.  I was feeling horrible and decided to go to a Chinese restaurant to get some food.

I walked up to the counter and tried to place an order.  However, I just could not get the words out and was really struggling.  There was a lady standing behind me.  She noticed my difficulty and stated “I think she is deaf.” and signed to me, “I can help.  What do you want to order?”  I decided to just go with it.  I signed my order and thanked the lady.

I confess, I once pretended to be a deaf person just to get Chinese food.

  1. Haha!! That’s hilarious and you’re forgiven! :) Nothing to feel guilty about honestly, you just went with it and I don’t blame you one bit. If I could sign, I just might have done the same thing at my Chinese restaurant. He can never understand me and I can never understand him. It’s a win-win!
